June’s full moon, known as the strawberry moon, will rise on the evening of Tuesday, June 10. It will appear extraordinarily low in the sky.
This morning’s Strawberry Moon was especially low because we are currently sitting in something called a Major Lunar Standstill. This is a cycle of about 18 years that occurs with the moon’s orbit, and we are in the part of the cycle that causes the moon to cut a very low arc over the horizon.
