Critical energy infrastructure in Israel and Iran has not escaped unscathed from the first few days of the countries' escalated conflict. Worst-case scenarios have yet to be realized, but the war is already having a notable impact on energy production and exports in both countries.
Mohammad-Reza Zafarghandi said in an update that an Israeli strike on Sunday on Quds Square in northern Tehran injured 59 civilians and killed 12 people, including a pregnant woman. That attack also ruptured a main water pipeline.
When Israel launched its series of strikes against Iran last week, it also issued a number of dire warnings about the country’s nuclear program, suggesting Iran was fast approaching a point of no return in its quest to obtain nuclear weapons and that the strikes were necessary to preempt that outcome.
