A 4.5 magnitude earthquake and other smaller quakes rocked the Humboldt County coastline in Northern California on Feb. 11 and 12. What's happening?

The latest in a series of North Carolina earthquakes struck on Friday, with the magnitude 2.1 tremor shaking the town of West Canton. Geologists reportedly say a fault is now active.

In addition to the five quakes that have struck in the past 24 hours in California, several also struck offshore northwest of Petrolia, California.

All three earthquakes were reported within the same general area north of Malibu where a magnitude 4.7 temblor had hit four days earlier.
