Iranian missiles struck Israel’s Tel Aviv and the port city of Haifa before dawn on Monday, destroying homes and fuelling concerns among world leaders at this week’s G7 meeting that the battle between the two old enemies could lead to a broader regional conflict.

Israeli ambulance services confirmed that the death toll from the latest Iranian missile strike has risen to 11.

The death toll in an earlier strike in Bat Yam, a city adjacent to Tel Aviv, rose as more bodies were extricated from rubble, meanwhile, and a research center at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot was destroyed in a strike. On Sunday, missiles arrived during the day for the first time.

Buildings three blocks away from the site of an Iranian missile impact in Tel Aviv show signs of damage, including cracked windows. Closer to the impact site, businesses and apartments are largely bombed out.

Fox News reporter Trey Yingst was standing on a balcony as short-range missiles behind him appeared to come closer before being intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome defense system. The footage of the incident preceded a night in which Israel and Iran traded fire, with explosions heard in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Tehran.

The U.S. ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee on Monday (June 16, 2025) said an embassy building in Tel Aviv sustained minor damage from a nearby Iranian missile strike, reporting no injuries to US personnel.

Israel identified and struck missile launchers in Iran overnight, the Israel Defense Forces said Sunday morning. "Over the past hour, the IAF completed an additional series of strikes on storage and missile launch infrastructure sties in western Iran," the IDF said in an update on the Telegram messaging app at about 8 a.m. in Israel.
