More than 30 people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike that hit a café near the port in Gaza City, according to the head of the territory’s largest hospital.

The Israeli military on Monday stepped up its operations in Gaza, calling for Palestinians to evacuate large areas of the north and carrying out fresh strikes, including one on a beachfront cafe.

The Israeli military said it struck militant targets in northern Gaza, including command and control centers, after taking steps to mitigate the risk of harming civilians.
