A t least 30 people have died in Beijing and more than 80,000 were evacuated to safety, Chinese authorities said, as heavy rains and floods ravage roads and houses in northern China. Eight other people died after a landslide on Monday in Chengde city, about three hours northeast of Beijing.

Heavy rains and flooding killed 30 people in Beijing, bringing the death toll from the storms in the region to at least 34. More than 80,000 people have been relocated in Beijing.

The dayslong rainstorms have left 30 dead in the Chinese capital and eight dead in its neighboring province of Hebei, state-run broadcaster CCTV said.
