With a rash of injuries to his starting rotation, Royals manager Matt Quatraro put together a plan to rely exclusively on his bullpen when Kansas City played the Atlanta Braves in their series finale on Wednesday.

With injuries taking a toll on their starting rotation, the Royals tied a big league record by using nine total pitchers in a 10-inning shutout victory over the Braves.

Kansas native Joey Wentz got a standing ovation Wednesday from about 20 family members, hundreds of traveling Braves fans and some of his old pals and high school coach, some seated behind the visiting dugout as he exited after pitching 6 2/3 scoreless innings against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.

Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. received an update on his injury timetable on Wednesday, avoiding a worst case scenario.

Acuña exited Tuesday's game in the sixth inning after chasing after a foul ball along the line and a double into the gap by back-to-back batters. He was able to walk off the field under his own power, albeit gingerly, which is nonetheless encouraging. Walking with a significant Achilles injury is pretty much impossible.
