So I figured out a way to play the game with the keyboard. I installed a script using AutoHotKey that translated WASD and arrow keys into cursor movements and allowed me to control the surfer.

WASD movement is controversial when it comes to ARPGs like Last Epoch, as many players either love it or hate it. Action RPGs tend to focus on movement, and using the WASD keys can limit that.

Quake is when strafe keys took over the placement of the left/right turn keys for me despite using mouselook from the start. Strafe+mouselook made you godlike against keyboard only plebs.
