All you need to start using Routines is an Alexa device. You can add any Alexa-compatible smart home devices to your Routine, but you can also set up Routines with nothing more than an Echo speaker.

A more sophisticated approach is to create Routines, which allow you to add one or several actions to an item on your schedule, including triggering Alexa Skills as well as smart-home devices.
