(© motortion – stock.adobe.com) The Virginia Department of Corrections expanded virtual visitation at two facilities allowing inmates to conduct visits from their own living areas.
Previously, video visitation cost 20 cents per minute. Officials said those using the system to visit within the VADOC will see the five-cent reduction in effect beginning on Monday, Jan. 13.
All 11 state Department of Corrections (DOC) facilities now allow inmates to video chat with loved ones via tablet or computer in a program similar to FaceTime or Skype.
During the COVID-19 pandemic the DOC sped up and completed a multi-year technology project to expand video visitation to all Level V prison facilities.
