NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO) — Sheriff Susan Hutson now faces even more challenges after being found in contempt of court. This ruling comes after Judge Flemings-Davillier accused Hutson of ignoring a June 18th court order to transport inmates to magistrate court on weekends and holidays.
The longstanding council-sheriff clash over funding for the city's jail blew up into a major issue after the May 16 escape of 10 inmates, with Hutson blaming the council for failing to adequately fund her office. Two of the escapees, Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves, remained at large as of Thursday.
A New Orleans judge has accused the Orleans Parish sheriff of being in contempt of court for allegedly ignoring a court order to transport inmates from the jail to the magistrate court. Sheriff Susan Hutson is accused of not transporting inmates to court on weekends and holidays.
