Patrick Reed started his U.S. Open with a bang, making a two on the par-5 fourth hole to launch himself into contention early in the first round.

Patrick Reed made only the fourth albatross since the U.S. Open started keeping records some four decades ago, sinking in his second shot from 286 yards Thursday on the par-5 fourth hole at Oakmont. Reed looked stunned after he hit a fairway wood onto the green,

That’s the first albatross (three-under par) in a U.S. Open since Nick Watney in 2012. The albatross took Reed from +1 to -2 in just a single swing, tying him — at the time — for fourth place, two strokes behind clubhouse leader J.J. Spaun.
