Two homes are lost and evacuation notices remain as fire officials continue attacking multiple wildfires burning along Colorado’s Western Slope Friday morning.
We are tracking two fires burning in the west of Colorado. One has caused evacuations in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, and the other has burned two homes North of Buena Vista.
MONTROSE, Colo. — Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in southwestern Colorado is being evacuated due to wildfires on both rims of the canyon, the park said on its website . The fires were caused by lightning, the park said. They said the park is currently closed and all visitors and staff are being evacuated.
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - The South Rim Fire burned 1,640 acres as of 11:00 p.m. on Thursday according to the InciWeb. The fire started around 11:30 a.m. and was caused by a lightning strike. Evacuation orders went into effect around 1:00 p.m. The fire is located nine miles east of Montrose, Colorado and is 0% contained.
We are continuing to track the fires all across western Colorado, with the South Rim Fire within the Black Canyon of the Gunnison seeing over 1,600 acres burned as of midnight this morning.
